River Bend RV - Luling, Texas

We have stopped several times at the River Bend RV Park in Luling, Texas. Luling is about 150 miles west of Houston on I-10 on the way to San Antonio. The RV park is conveniently located about 200 yards to the north of I-10 and is easy for RVs to get into and then back on the highway on the way out of town.

The park is on the San Marcos River and has river access for swimming. They also have paddle boats and canoes available. For recreational fishermen, they feature a catch and release pond stocked with perch and catfish. There is a racing stable adjacent to the park where you occasionally see a trainer exercising the horses. One of our favorite features is the animal pens where you can see alpaca, goats, horses and donkeys. Inside the clubhouse they have a birdcage with many small colorful birds.

On our trip in April 2009 we enjoyed the bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush and other wild flowers on the way to the west coast. It was a beautiful, scenic drive on a warm spring day. The town of Luling is actually about five miles north of the RV park. We drove into Luling and visited the farmer’s market where Kathi picked up some fresh vegetables and some honey. They had a pea shelling machine they were using to shell cream peas. It was special to me because I remember spending hours shelling peas by hand. We seldom see cream peas in the grocery stores anymore and they were one of my favorite vegetables when I was growing up.

Luling is a small town and if you are nostalgic about small towns like I am, this is a nice place to spend a few beautiful spring days.
